“Cabinet & Curiosity” an H.P.Lovecraft-inspired horror.

  1. A strong desire to know or learn something.
    2. A strange or unusual object or fact
     …
You know what it did to the cat. And now I’ve brought it out for you.
“Cabinet & Curiosity” is an installation style piece inspired by the late H.P Lovecraft and his world of the twisted, tentacled, macabre. Installed inside a heavily distressed and “reborn” gothic style clock tower lives this horrid and rather enormous wriggling beast. It’s single, penetrating golden eye never loses it’s fixation, never blinks, and never ever stops shining. Atop the head of the beast are translucent pustules and tattered rudimentary wings and arm-like projections. The creature appears to be in a sort of recently disturbed repose, at first relaxing inside it’s age old and scratched to the bone cabinet home, only now beginning it’s slow creeping decent upon it’s new viewer.
you have to see this one to believe it, but unless you’re in Washington state, these pictures (or a purchase) will have to do.
“Cabinet & Curiosity” is currently on display at the Red Raven Gallery, Port Townsend WA for the “What the Moon Brings” Lovecraft show.  Available works can be purchased through the gallery  HERE.
    Be careful out there….

Underwater lava flows, predatory dinosaurs, and little poems to drift off to sleep…. In short, I’m busy.

As if I ever STOPPED being busy..ha!

Amongst the herd of cycloptic/multi-eyed, rainbow colored creatures being released this summer is a giant taxidermy/sculpture dinosaur bust, a massive-eyed mutant piece titled “It who makes the Space, makes the Time”, my revised LED-illuminated “Moon” creature, and the most incredible “Atomic Squid battles the Nuclear Submarine” diorama that ever claimed to exist, or probably ever existed. (BUT ~I’ll save that last one for my next post…enjoy pics of the former for now ;} )

In addition, soon I will make my public announcement of my participation on a Wild network television program, as well as debut a brand new artist website, online store, T-Shirt design(s), and more!

As usual, stay cool Planet Earth~+~Keep Watching!

So as you may expect, I have nothing but praise for this up and coming bi-annual craft collective! The crowd throughout the event was steady and friendly, the drinks delcious, and the ambiance very attractive. Saw a few familiar favorites and indulged in many of the vendors wares- tapping into my own earnings for money very well spent. I am proud of my newest additions to my collection, and Im proud to say many of my own creations found new homes to enchant as well.
Some vendors of particular interest to me were the illuminated and utterly fantastic, robots of Tin Angry Men. Artist Cre Fuller utilizes spare industrial guts, coffee machines and tinted glass parts, electrical strands of touch lamp goodness, and a creative style to pull it all together. It is truly an honor to exhibit with him; not only does our work compliment each others beautifully, he draws quite the wide-eyed crowd with ease. 😉 Also featured were many textile and paper artists; Sherri of Sparklepants Industrys had for sale some wonderful shadow framed paper scenes with pinwheels, birds, and the essential soul of the modern craft movement. Her works hang like contained little peaceful moments, of which most should strive to hold dear!
Recycled licence plates chopped into phrases and custom adornments, skillfully painted ceramic vessels, and another crowd favorite-recycled jars and collected glass containers fabulously lit up the fair with golden bulbs and chandelier grace. It was a sight indeed.

The DIYpsi event will appear again in December, so should you like to see these vendors in person ag as in (and many others) I suggest you pay the cultural hub of ypsilsnti a visit 😉

Thanks everyone for a great show!

~Next on my schedule of Detroit sightings is my inclusion in the Rust Belt Markets “Dream Cruis weekend”. While not hosting any official DC promotion, the market is located squarely on 9 mile and Woodward Ave, and should draw a tremendous crowd. The space will be abnormally packed with some of the areas hottest artists, so I encourage all you culture junkies looking to get your hands dirty this weekend-dont miss out on this fantastic event!

Below is a promotional piece available for sale this weekend. Titled “Savaged Beast”, this piece illustrates the violent nature of sex and passionate love, highlighting a brilliant colored prehistoric mollusk-still twisted up in the severed arms of its latest lover. I am very fond of this creatures eyes…the golden brown richness and sultry glare pull the viewer in for closer look. This piece will be available at the special price of 175$ and as always, is sold ready to hang or sit and is signed with my signature smoking mushroom symbol.
The brand BRAND new work for this weekends excitment are really going to turn heads! A pair of pop-trophy heads mounted atop show-stopping electric painted plaques, this duo of cornial carnage will take center stage at my table, so be sure to act fast if you intend to add these coveted pieces to your collection! There is a teaser image of the painted bases, I may be coaxed into revealing the creaturess before the show…but no promises!

Stay Tuned-and enjoy the show……!
